This is how Cementa will cope with the crisis – three measures

Cementa is working on three different legal measures to obtain a permit to mine lime on Gotland. It is announced at a press conference today.

– It will be crucial that we get the emergency mining permit in place, says Karin Comstedt Webb, head of sustainability and public relations within Cementa and Heidelberg Cement northern Europe.

It was a couple of weeks ago that the message came in the Supreme Court (HD). The court then denied Cementa leave to appeal, which meant that the Land and Environmental Court’s decision from last summer, where Cementa’s impact assessments of 20 years of continued limestone mining in Slite were upheld, was upheld.

In addition to an emergency mining permit that was applied for from the government, Cementa is applying for a shorter permit as well as a longer permit. That application must be submitted in 2022.

– We see that a longer permit is necessary for our cement supply. This is achieved by securing the supply of raw materials, says Karin Comstedt Webb.
