The questions (and answers) that can make it easier for you to apply for a job
Do you want to change jobs but are very specialized? Do you suspect that your age may be an obstacle? Regardless of what may be behind the job hunt being sluggish, the focus should be on things you can control.
In the newspaper Forbes Career coach Caroline Ceniza-Levine suggests some questions you should ask yourself if you want to change jobs:
Are you consistent and persistent enough?
Being consistent means applying for a job on an ongoing basis. Avoid making occasional jerks and then take a break. Continue to throw out hooks even if you have received a promising pacifier. Nothing is certain, not even if you are in a state of final interviews. A company can suddenly change strategy or choose internal solutions.
Do you focus on suitable jobs?
The role and responsibilities of the job must match your experience and background. You must also be the right person for the company’s size and type, is it, for example, an established company or a startup? Do research and talk to people who know the company you want to work for.
Do you reach the right people?
Sending an application to an advertised position may well lead to a job, but job advertisements can also provide valuable ideas about companies and roles you may not even have thought of. If you instead choose to apply spontaneously, you must make sure to reach the right people to avoid that your application ends up in a general CV pile at the company.
Are you attractive to the employer?
You should have a good idea of what a potential employer is looking for and why they would hire you among other candidates. Here it is important to examine what the company prioritises and keep track of information that indicates new initiatives or strategic changes. Prepare carefully for an interview and be prepared to respond to objections.
Do you really want the job?
If you feel enthusiasm and a genuine interest in a job, this will be felt when you have contact with an employer. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a job a little half-heartedly, you will not be motivated to persevere in the roller coaster job search means.
