Swedish Transport Administration: More emergency airports are needed
The Swedish Transport Administration wants to see a doubling of emergency airports around the country – from ten to 22.
During the corona pandemic, it has become clearer that the current airports are not enough, says Katarina Wigler, strategic planner at the Swedish Transport Administration, to Swedish Radio.
The emergency airports are used for socially important transports, for example emergency medical matters or for police and defense purposes, even outside the airports’ normal opening hours.
Among the new emergency airports proposed are Kiruna Airport, Lycksele Airport, Karlstad Airport and Kristianstad Airport.
