The AVENTICS Series AF2 Airflow Sensor can now be integrated into AVENTICS Series 652/653 Air Conditioning Units, providing the operator with clearer and more useful insights that help save energy and prevent machine downtime.

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) often look for ways to save energy or improve overall equipment efficiency (OEE), but may not have access to process data to help them determine how to reduce energy consumption and machine downtime. The information that Emerson’s updated AF2 Series Air Flow Sensor collects when integrated with Series 652/653 air handling units helps companies save a significant amount of energy and reduce unplanned downtime, helping to reliably meet sustainability and production goals.

The extended functions of the IIoT-activated AF2 sensor provide a clear and complete picture of the air consumption in pneumatic systems. Now that the AF2 sensor can be integrated with the air conditioning units in the 652/653 series, users can take advantage of the versatility and wide range of options that this air conditioning series offers, such as filters, pressure regulators and lubrication units. With an integrated analysis tool and open interface, the airflow sensor enables the user to select valuable diagnostic data and understanding that helps operators make better, more informed decisions and take prompt action if problems arise.

The updated AF2 sensor enables operators to monitor air consumption in pneumatic systems according to DIN ISO 50001 and provides useful measurement data about the machine unit, such as flow, pressure and temperature. The stored measurement data helps the operator to detect and analyze leaks and perform preventive maintenance, before problems occur in the machine. By monitoring the condition of the machine unit using the AF2 sensor, the user can optimize the energy consumption and the condition of the machine, which reduces the energy cost and downtime.

AVENTICS Series AF2 airflow sensor has an integrated analysis tool and open interface that makes it possible to provide clear and useful state measurements of an application like no other sensor in the industry.

The compact 652/653 series with integrated AF2 airflow sensor is easy to install, installs quickly and requires little space. Its open communication interface works smoothly with existing protocols and it can be retrofitted to existing machines without requiring major rebuilds in the application. An online configuration makes it easy to choose the right devices that directly fit the application. The sensor is also available with both G and NPT threads and is either modular or a tubular version.

The flexible sensor is suitable for a variety of applications and machines, and it can communicate directly with control systems available on the market. The various communication options include switch, analog, frequency, pulse output, IO-Link or Ethernet. The AF2 sensor’s integrated data logger registers and stores data around the clock for up to seven days.

The IIoT-enabled airflow sensor expands the AVENTICS product family for air preparation in the 651, 652 and 653 series, making Emerson’s portfolio one of the widest and most versatile on the market.

The simple installation and cost-saving capability of the 652/653 series with integrated AF2 sensor proves that digitization can start easily and be cost-effective from the start. It enables companies that are ready to begin their digitalization journey, to integrate sensors into an application, prove ROI and then scale up to the desired level.
