British sales stop for exhaust cars already in 2030
The UK will ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars as early as 2030. The Financial Times writes.
The newspaper states that the sales stop is part of the broader green package that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will present this week.
If the information is correct, it would move the sales stop forward by five years compared to what Johnson has previously said, in February this year he stated that the sales stop will be moved from the year 2040 to 2035.
In order for the UK to achieve its environmental goals, Johnson now wants to try to put pressure on the car industry through the proposal. Hybrid cars are said to be allowed to continue to be sold until 2035.
Electric cars today account for only 7 percent of all car sales in the country and representatives of the car industry say, according to the Financial Times, that huge investments in infrastructure will be required to get more car owners to exchange petrol for electricity.
Johnson’s government is expected to present a proposal for around £ 500 million, just over SEK 5.7 billion, to start construction of this infrastructure next year.
