Crypto thief rewarded after theft
The hacker behind the biggest theft of cryptocurrencies of all time will receive half a million dollars in reward.
This weekend, the thief stole cryptocurrencies worth as much as SEK 5 billion. It’s the biggest theft of its kind ever – if you can call it theft. The hacker has returned the money.
The victim, Chinese Poly Network, which specializes in transfers of cryptocurrencies, went out on Tuesday and asked to get the money back. And already the next day, the money began to flow into the company again. A message from the hacker states that the plan will always be to return the stolen funds.
Today, the company is grateful to the hacker, writes Reuters.
– He has returned the money and helped us improve our security by showing how vulnerable we are, writes Poly Network.
The company calls the reward a “bug bounty”, ie a reward to anyone who finds a bug, a bug in the computer programs that hackers can exploit.
The hacker has Poly Network named Mr. White Hat – programmer hose for hackers who want to help companies find fault.
– We want to reward Mr. White Hat for his work. And we hope he wants to continue working with us.
