The biggest investment to date that combines solar and wind

In Mongolia’s desert, wind and solar power are combined with large-scale energy storage. The project will deliver 16 GW, and construction has now begun.

The Kubuqi Base Project is part of China’s ambition to double the country’s green electricity production in one fell swoop, with 1,200 GW from wind and solar by 2030 – but this time they are taking the step into neighboring Mongolia.

China Three Gorges is behind the project, and now construction has begun in the Kubuqi Desert. With a budget of 11.6 billion, wind power and solar panels are being installed together with large-scale energy storage. It writes Recharge.

Eventually, the Kubuqi Base Project will deliver 16 GW, divided between 8 GW of solar energy and 4 GW of wind and 4 GW from coal. Added to this is the energy storage of 300 MW / 600 MW/h. It writes PV Magazine.

According to CTG, it is the largest investment to date that combines electricity production from wind and solar cells. The planned capacity for the project’s first phase is 1 GW of solar with corresponding energy storage.
