The Audi A6 does almost everything right – except for the price

EUROPAINDEX. Audi A6 in plug-in hybrid version will combine a premium feel with electric drive. But the big question is how well you have succeeded. Opinions differ among experts in Europe.

In the mid-90s, something happened at Audi. They scrapped the old and scorched their cars with new names. The Model 100 was scrapped, and since 1994, the A6 has been the weapon in the German battle for premium buyers.

Now the model is in its fifth generation – which, among other things, is gifted with an oh so important electrified driveline. When Ny Teknik tested it, partly as then and in the combi variant Avant, the rating has been good. Audi has managed to reach a good compromise and delivers on the promise of bringing the best of both “worlds”.

But what do you think in Europe? Is the A6 50/55 TFSIe a good alternative in the plug-in hybrid segment?

In Italy, La Gazzetta describes that from the outside, the Audin looks like a large family car, with a pinch of personality but not exaggerated in style. However, they believe that the inside differs from much else: “Getting on board this A6 corresponds to a real journey into the future. The car is modern, advanced and technical in the interior, and the details have been taken care of with care. “, Writes La Gazzetta.

In addition to coming in both station wagon and sedan body, the model is also available as 50 and 55 TFSIe. So, what’s lurking behind the numbers? The basis is the same two-liter petrol engine with the same performance, and in both cases it is supported by a similar electric motor. However, there is a difference between control and software. The tamer gives 299 horsepower in system power – and the cooler comes with 367 hp.

The important thing about the charging hybrid, however, is that it can be run on electricity – officially it is about 65 km.

So how does the rechargeable A6 drive? Here, opinions diverge.

“Dynamically, the car is an absolute best, and especially the instantaneous torque from the electric motor can push everyone on board into the backrests. Add the adaptive chassis as an option, as well as the option to change with the paddles and you have a fake semi-electric Audi RS6 “writes Czech FDrive.

Colleagues on Auto Mania is not as acclaimed after its tests of the more power-hungry car:

“I would not necessarily say that the plug-in hybrid A6 is muscular, but it is not a car that pulls for faster rides. Thanks to the adaptive chassis, it is still comfortable. ” )

But is the higher number of horsepower the most important? Not according to everyone. In Denmark, 50- and 55 TFSIe have been tested back to back. There they say that 367 horsepower undeniably gives good features, but:

“But it is punch that is unnecessary. 299 horsepower is excellent performance for the large car where comfort, directional stability and long-distance properties clearly overshadow sporty intentions “, writes Danish Bilbasen.

British Autocar has also tested both models, and writes that the 50 car “feels comfortable even in that version”. However, this is how it is with the driving feeling:

“It’s not fun to drive. The A6 plug-in hybrid offers quattro and is either two- or four-wheel drive, depending on what it thinks you need. But there is no sense of how the car moves under you. It is accurate and safe, but not very exciting “, writes Autocar.

Summarized

Overall, the experts appreciate what Audi has achieved. The A6 50/55 TFSIe receives a European index of 72.46 points out of 100 possible (based on 16 sources).

German Car engine and sports believes that the A6 as a charging hybrid is really sharp, but with a certain reservation:

“The A6 does almost everything right, but with all the goodies for driving dynamics and comfort, it costs significantly more than the competition. The permissible payload is also very low “, it writes after driving the A6 55 TFSIe against BMW and Mercedes rivals.

It’s about the same show Top Gear, where you appreciate almost everything with the car:

“Efficient, smart and like all A6s really lovable. The plug-in hybrid does not confuse you with lots of different driving modes, however, it is not as comfortable as a large luxury model should be. The driveline has a bit of an odd behavior and the brakes take time to get used to.

And it is precisely the price that is the big catch. The fact that the A6 in plug-in hybrid vintage, not least under the name 55 TFSIe, is expensive cannot be underestimated.

“The price difference against a fully electric car is so small that there is a great temptation to choose one instead. But if for some reason you are not ready for the all-electric car – the A6 charging hybrid is an excellent interim solution “, sums up Dutch Autozine.

Some who, on the other hand, think that Audi has found the right one are Auto Review:

“If there is a ranking of the best plug-in hybrids, the Audi A6 will compete for the first prize,” writes the.
