In order to be able to quickly switch to a more sustainable energy production, it is necessary to put wise heads together. That is why Solkompaniet and Rabbalshede Kraft have jointly developed the concept; Solar as a service. A step in the journey towards their common goal of increased production from renewable energy.

Solar as a service means that customers can produce electricity – without tying up capital. Instead of financing the plant, the customer in question leases its roof and then buys the solar that is produced at a fixed kWh price. At the end of the agreement, the customer chooses whether to extend it, or whether to buy the facility.

– We have a very good collaboration with Rabbalshede Kraft. In simple terms, we build and operate the facilities and take care of service and maintenance. Rabbalshede Kraft is responsible for the financing and together we ensure that our customers have access to clean and renewable energy, says Mikael Millerlei.

Solkompaniet was founded in 2010. Then with the same vision as now. To build a sustainable society from strategy to finished solar cells. And on the horizon is the goal that solar energy, by 2030, will account for 10 percent of Sweden’s electricity needs.

– Solar energy is a clean and renewable energy source, which in today’s world with environmental and climate crisis, it will play an extremely important role. Not least because the world is changing and becoming more electrically powered. Today, 1 percent of the electricity we use in Sweden comes from the sun, a share we want to increase to 10 percent, says Mikael Millerlei, business developer at Solkompaniet.

Rabbalshede Kraft is not new in the field, the company was founded in 2005 and built its first wind farm in 2007. The vision is to “shape tomorrow’s energy” through collaborations and innovative thinking. Rabbalshede Kraft has extensive experience of renewable energy and works with wind power, green hydrogen and solar power. And together with Solkompaniet, they want to increase the availability of solar energy.

– We do not see it as solar power, wind power and green hydrogen opposing each other. It is a common opportunity where all renewable energy sources can contribute in their own way. You simply must not be narrow-minded but instead maximize the benefits of different energy sources. With solar as a service, companies can reduce their electricity costs, while at the same time securing the future of the part of the electricity costs that go through the solar system, as the price is fixed throughout the agreement, says Peter Wesslau, CEO of Rabbalshede Kraft.

That the future of solar energy looks bright is a fact. And the fact that Sweden, geographically, has better conditions than one might think means that conditions are permissible for development. Southern Sweden’s solar climate can be compared to central Germany, which is a pioneering country when it comes to solar.

– It is of course difficult to predict the future, but I have worked a lot with wind power, which has also been in a growth phase. Today, it is a large part of many countries’ electricity production and soon we will probably reach 20 percent in Sweden. Solar power will follow, the price of panels will be lower at the same time as they become more efficient, says Peter Wesslau.

Mikael Millerlei also believes in a future where the demand for green electricity will increase drastically.

– We have already seen a strong increase in electricity consumption in Sweden and demand will increase even more. As more electric cars enter the market, more charging stations are needed and there are also far-reaching plans to produce CO2-free steel. These two examples are very good but will lead to a sharp increase in electricity demand. In other words, we need more renewable energy and I think we will see a strong increase in both solar and other renewable energy sources in the near future, concludes Mikael Millerlei.
