Polestar reveals – so will the driveline in the new performance car
A new performance model with over 880 horsepower. At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Polestar will show the model “5” and now they have revealed more about the driveline.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, hundreds of thousands of people gather to see everything from vintage cars to F1 cars driving up the classic track for a few days.
And one of the cars that will drive up the famous Goodwood hill is the Polestar 5.
So far, much around the 5th is shrouded in obscurity, but it is a four-door performance GT originating in the concept “Precept”.
– Goodwood is our favorite place to show our cars in an enthusiastic environment. This year we look forward to showing Polestar 5 as it drives up the hill, says Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar in a statement.
884 horsepower under the hood
The model is being developed partly in the UK and partly here in Sweden. The chassis, developed by the team in the British Isles, is epoxy-glued, something Polestar describes as unique and an important factor in being able to deliver driving characteristics “as appealing as the design”.
In Sweden, the development of the driveline is underway, where a new electric motor on the rear axle is described as delivering “superior” power in combination with an 800-volt system. Together with another engine at the front, the goal is for the Polestar 5 to have a system power of 650 kW, corresponding to 884 horsepower and a torque of 900 Nm.
– The new driveline we are working on will raise the bar to a new level in our performance cars. The combination with a strong ability in the development of electric motors and achievements in platform technology with low weight, leads to truly outstanding driving-happy cars, says Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar’s technical and development manager in a statement.
In addition to the Polestar 5 that runs shuttle traffic on the slopes, the manufacturer will also show a Polestar 2 BST Edition 270 – ie the production car that is based on the special “Experimental” that Ny Teknik tested last year. In addition, the concept Precept will also be exhibited.
The idea is that Polestar 5 will be on the market in 2024, this as one of three new cars planned. The others are the Polestar 3 crossover and the more coupe-like Polestar 4 crossover.
