Oatly opens research center in Lund – can study food at the nano level
Swedish oat drink manufacturer Oatly will open a research and innovation center in Lund, writes Sydsvenskan and Helsingborgs Dagblad.
About thirty researchers will be recruited in a first step, and in the long term, another 70 researchers will be linked to the operation, according to Oatly.
The center will delve into issues such as oat biochemistry, biophysics, microstructure and nutritional properties, the newspapers write.
Sofia Ehlde, global innovation manager at Oatly, highlights the advantage of having the national laboratory Max IV and the pan-European research facility Ess in Lund.
– This is part of a new research investment in oats. In Lund, there is already world-leading expertise in plant breeding. And with Ess and Max IV, there are advanced instruments to study materials and food at the nano level with, says Ehlde to Sydsvenskan / HD.
Oatly is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The share has taken a hit recently and almost halved its value compared to the peak in June.
