Monaco’s electric motorcycle broke several world records

The motorcycle’s electric motor delivers 425 horsepower and is cooled with dry ice. At a French airfield, Voxan Wattman reached close to 400 km / h and broke several records.

The Mc brand Voxan Motors has been around for 25 years but has been owned since 2010 by French Venturi Automobiles. They moved production to Monaco and implemented the shift to electric motorcycles. The Voxan Wattman was their first battery-powered model and the name is also shared by the company’s record motorcycle.

It has an engine of 317 kilowatts, equivalent to 425 horsepower. That’s about four times as much as the more powerful models offered by different manufacturers.

The battery of 15.9 kWh, however, roughly corresponds to what you can expect from an electric motorcycle, but the energy is only enough for a few “record turns”. The entire driveline is cooled with dry ice. It writes Electrek.

Voxan Wattman was already prepared to make his record rounds in Bolivia’s salt desert Salar de Uyuni, but the pandemic put a stop to the trials. They should not have been resumed until 2021, but a window opened in the form of the Châteauroux airfield in France.

Beat several records

There, the race could be carried out by the Italian road racing driver and six-time world champion Max Biaggi, who lives in Monaco. The record motorcycle actually consists of three copies where one version is really encapsulated, the other has a smaller amount of covers – and the last one is completely naked. It has its explanation.

Several records were broken in France. The speed that the team primarily wanted to exceed was in the category “partially streamlined electric motorcycle over 300 kg”. A distance of 1.6 km was completed twice with a flying start, and the top speed of 366.94 km / h meant that Biaggi took the record.

He then went on to break the record for non-streamlined electric motorcycles at a speed of 349.38 km / h. Other records were for 1 km with flying start, partly streamlined: 386.35 km / h – and for ¼ mile with standing start, partly streamlined and the speed 127.30 km / h. Electric towing bikes can certainly reach over 300 km / h on a quarter-mile with a standing start, but they belong to a completely different category of vehicles.

To this were added speeds that are now up to others to beat:

¼ mile with flying start, partly streamlined: 394.45 km / h

¼ mile with flying start, non-streamlined: 357.19 km / h

¼ mile with standing start, non-streamlined: 126.20 km / h

1 km with standing start, non-streamlined: 185.56 km / h

1 km with standing start, partly streamlined: 191.84 km / h

1 mile with standing start, non-streamlined: 222.82 km / h

1 mile with standing start, partly streamlined: 225.01 km / h
