Mini launches the first electric convertible

ELECTRIC CARS

The possibility to roll forward “silently” without a roof. Now Mini has confirmed that they will build a convertible version of their Cooper SE electric car.

For all those who love the open feeling that a convertible gives, but want to drive on electricity, the offer has been exactly zero. But now a first roofless electric car is coming. This in the form of the Mini Cooper SE Cabriolet.

As with the combustion engine-powered options, the electric convertible mirrors the regular three-door car. This means that the model has an electric motor of 135 kW/184 horsepower and 270 Nm of torque.

The roof is in fabric and on this Mini has printed the Union Jack as usual. For those who do not want to stand still when maneuvering, the manufacturer states that the roof can be opened and closed at speeds of up to 30 km/h.

The openable roof may be lovely and give a feeling of freedom, but it does mean that the range gets a thorn. Instead of 234 km, which is the official figure for the regular electric car, the convertible will only do 201 km.

Mini has said that it will mass produce the car, but in a limited edition. Only 999 convertibles are planned and they will be built only in black and silver.

Many are said to be intended for more southern latitudes, how much allocation the Swedish market gets and what a piece of the electric convertible will cost is not determined at the moment.
