Five things that indicate a good social ability

Are you bad at human interaction? Here are five qualities that make colleagues perceive your social skills as brilliant.

One report from the Institute for Labor Market and Education Policy Evaluation showed already in 2018 that good social skills paid off better and better for employees – and the area has continued to be highly valued.

But what traits and qualities characterize those who possess the coveted talent?

The newspaper Fast Company thinks he has the answers. They have listed five things that indicate that a person has good social skills.

If you yourself feel that the interaction with others is a weak branch, you can definitely train to become sharper in the area. Follow the tips below.

Show others your appreciation

Everyone wants their efforts to be noted and appreciated. Therefore, highlight and give praise to colleagues when they have some form of success. Your appreciation makes them feel special. And if you end up in front of your boss, you can, for example, show appreciation for previous feedback.

Before you meet a recruiter, check out the person or agency and give them an estimate, for example, if they have good statistics when it comes to finding the right people.

2. Have the ability to listen deeply

It may seem like a simple thing, and most people probably consider themselves good listeners if such a need exists – but a study conducted at Harvard revealed that people occupy 60 percent of conversations talking about themselves. At the same time, really good listeners make a strong impression, and they are often praised for their ability. Here it is important that your eye contact and posture confirm that you really take in what the other person is saying.

3. Be enthusiastic

Few appreciate the colleagues who point out mistakes and shortcomings, saw ideas and warn that the established plan can lead to the forest. They are seen as energy thieves.

4. Be effective with your body language

It’s easy to be careless when you stop to exchange a few words with a colleague, but you have to include body language. Mirror the other person’s body position. If the person is sitting down, so should you. Standing close and towering over a seated person is perceived by many as provocative.

During the conversation, it is important not to let your eyes wander – keep eye contact. You need to keep track of your facial expressions and also the tone of voice.

5. Be grateful

During your career, former colleagues and classmates have certainly contributed with pushes in the right direction. It can be about career advice, help with applying for a new job – or that the person has actually tipped you off about your new employer. You should not forget to thank these people for their help. Let them know that you are grateful for their efforts.
