Swedish Einride continues to make an impression in the development of electric and autonomous freight transport.

In 2019, the company became the first in the world to obtain a permit to drive a truck without a driver on a public road, as part of the legislation for experimental activities for self-driving vehicles. The tests took place in Jönköping.

Now the company announces that it will also be the first in the US with the same type of permit. The US equivalent of the Swedish Transport Agency, NHTSA, has approved the application to drive the cabless Einride Pod in a pilot adjacent to GE Appliances’ factory in Selmer, Tennessee. An operator will remotely monitor the driving remotely.

Pilot tests later this year

– The Einride Pod is a new type of vehicle that has never been seen before on a public road in the United States and the permit is a milestone for the American transportation industry. The autonomous and electrical technology in our Pod will not only revolutionize transportation, but also create thousands of jobs, says Robert Falck, CEO and co-founder of Einride, in a statement.

The goal is to begin the pilot trial during the third quarter of this year. Einride already has a collaboration with GE Appliances and handles certain deliveries for them.
